Homeowner Shoots Intruder Who Broke in While Daughter Was Home Alone

A teenager was home alone and hid in her closet calling her parents after someone had broken into their home. Records from the Orlando Police Department also show calls from the neighborhood about a man in his 30-40’s acting strangely.

As officers were arriving at the home, the homeowner shot 53-year-old David Havens through the front entrance. The officers found Havens with a single gunshot wound and transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

What can be said here most importantly for parents is to make sure they establish a well-constructed home defense plan not just for everyone as a whole but additionally for when their children are home alone. What room is designated the safe room and do your children know to go there and lock themselves if trouble arises?

We can talk about the dangers of having weapons around and accessible while children are present, but really if you have a plan to defend yourselves as well as teach your loved ones about firearm safety, they are ready to counteract the “bad guys.”

Thankfully the daughter was not harmed. Hopefully, this is a teaching moment for the family and the neighborhood alike to make sure their households know how to keep themselves safe from harm.

The homeowner has not and will not face any charges, according to authorities.
